So being a British citizen I would have never before classed a gold chain necklace as a fashion statement. The first image that springs to mind is a ‘Chav’, for those of you who are lost on this word it signifies a young lad, or ladette, who usually hangs around your local park looking suspicious and underage. They will often be wearing a tracksuit with a baseball cap awkwardly tilted at a ninety degree angle, and yes wearing the gold chain to top it all off. However, Balmain has definitely made the chain look chic and elegant and soon the image of the English ‘Chav’ disappeared from my mind. Who knew?

Olivier Rousteing RTW Spring/Summer 2014 collection is littered with chains. From chain belts to the bottom of dresses with chain hems. He hasn’t been subtle with his use of chain this season but has it paid off? Or has it made his pieces look cheap? Personally, I think he’s changed my mind on the image of the chain from ‘Chav’ to ‘Chic’. It brings all his collection together and he manages to made the so called ‘bling’ look feminine. Thumbs up to Balmain this Spring and Summer.
